Dungannon man assaulted nightclub doorman

Petras Pulkys (30), from Cedar Ridge, originally from Lithuania, admitted four charges including assault, assault on police, obstructing police, and using disorderly behaviour on December 21 last year at a nightclub in Scotch Street, Dungannon.

The court was told that four men were seen outside the club fighting and that Pulkys then became aggressive and ended up assaulting two staff on the door.

He shouted in his native language and tried to break away from police grip as they tried to restrain him, a prosecuting lawyer told the court.

Pulkys punched a constable, ran off, then ran at another constable, while continuing to shout and struggle, the court was told during the case hearing.

The prosecuting lawyer said Pulkys was eventually restrained and arrested and was taken to a cell where he continued to shout and be abusive.

The lawyer said Pulkys had claimed he’d punched out only a few times.

A defence solicitor said Pulkys had been living in the Dungannon area since 2006 and was in full time employment.

The solicitor said his client had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

District Judge John Meehan said he would give Pulkys credit for admitting the offences at the earliest opportunity.

“There has been an early admission,” he told the court.

Judge Meehan imposed a four month sentence for common assault, a four month sentence for the assault on police, a one month imprisonment for obstructing Police, and two months for using disorderly behaviour.

All sentences are to run concurrent, the Judge told the court. Pulkys was also ordered to pay an offender’s levy of £25. Bail of £200 was fixed for appeal.
