Police spotted a grey Vauxhall Vectra belonging to Irmantas Kanapkis, 28, from Lisnahull Park, on Ballygawley Road in the early hours of February 14.

He was stopped as he entered Lisnahull and police detected signs of alcohol consumption. He subsequently provided a breath sample just under twice the limit.

Mr Jarlath Faloon, defending, told the court that his client had planned to travel just a short distance of 600 yards between the pub and his home.

He said that it had been a “stupid” decision to drive.

Mr Faloon stated that Kanapkis had lived in N. Ireland for fifteen years and had a full time job in a local meat factory.

District Judge John Meehan handed down a fine of £100 and banned the defendant from driving for twelve months. An offender’s levy of £15 was also imposed.
