Dungannon woman held over Peru drug seizure

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irish woman being in held Peru on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.

Michaella McCollum Connolly (20) - with family in Dungannon - had moved to Ibiza and was reported missing last week after her family had not heard from her for almost two weeks.

Peru’s National Police Force announced on its website that Ms McCollum Connolly and a 19-year-old British national had been arrested by drug enforcement officers at Lima’s international airport on Tuesday.

The two are reported to have been intending to board a flight to Madrid, with a quantity of cocaine.
