Dunloy man banned from roads

A DUNLOY man who police found to be over the limit while sitting in his van had been unable to get a taxi after a night out, a court has heard.

Alvin McIntyre (21) of Frocess Road appeared before North Antrim Magistrates' Court on Friday to plead guilty to being in charge of a vehicle with excess alcohol in his breath.

The court was told McIntyre was found sitting in the passenger seat of a white van parked at Union Street, Ballymoney at 1.45am on November 28 last year.

His eyes were said to be red and police smelt drink on his breath.

A defence solicitor said her client was a joiner by trade and had been since he left school.

"In the current financial climate it would be a major hinderence to him to lose his licence,” she said.

She said McIntyre had called at a pub in Ballymoney to meet someone regarding work.

"Unfortunately he stayed on and had a few drinks," she said.

"He tried to get a taxi but couldn't.

"He went back to his van and that is when police came."

District Judge Richard Wilson fined McIntyre 200 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
