Environmental health chiefs are seeking information following an incident during which 17 tyres were dumped at a Dunloy windfarm.

Ballymoney Borough Council Environment Officer Karen Mitchell received the report of fly-tipping on September 20th.

When she inspected the sight, which is about half a mile off the main Tullaghans Road, she found that six tractor tyres and a further eleven car tyres had been dumped.

Karen Mitchell told the Times: “Information to date indicates that a red Talbot type van was seen in the vicinity on Tuesday evening (17 September). I would like to appeal to your readers if anyone has any information regarding this incident to please contact me on (028) 2766 0257. All information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

“Those guilty of this offence have absolutely no thought for the environment within which they live or indeed any respect for the people who have to clean up their mess both physically and financially. As a community we should all be working together to make it a better, more environmentally friendly place for us all to enjoy. There are proper facilities for this type of waste to be recycled at.

“Anyone detected for this or similar offences, will face the full force of the law.”
