Dunluce castle visitor centre refused

An application for a visitor centre and conference room at Dunluce Castle has been refused by planners.

Planning officer, Michael Wilson told members attending Council’s Planning Committee last Tuesday night that any application at the site needed to be ‘sensitive to the surroundings’.

The application proposed to replace agricultural sheds and replace it with a single storey visitor centre including cafe, toilets, exhibition and meeting spaces, car parking and a drop off point for buses.

The application was refused by planners on nine grounds. They stated that it would have an ‘adverse impact on the environment’, it doesn’t integrate into the landscape and it would have an unacceptable impact on rural character.
