The owners of a much-criticised care home have given an assurance that they are still working to ensure full compliance with all regulations.

Runwood Homes gave the assurance in relation to Dunmurry Manor after the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) moved to impose conditions of registration on the Seymour Hill facility amid concerns over the welfare of patients.

“During an unannounced care inspection at Dunmurry Manor in October 2016, RQIA identified concerns regarding the care, staffing, and governance arrangements at this home. As a result of these concerns, RQIA issued three notices of failure to comply with regulations to this service,” an RQIA spokesperson explained.

“Following an inspection on 27 January 2017, the service achieved compliance in relation to staffing, however, further improvement was required to achieve compliance in care and governance arrangements. RQIA is currently moving to place conditions on the registration of Dunmurry Manor.”

Following a meeting with senior management last week, the RQIA said it has “concerns in relation to robust governance and management arrangements, and the sustained delivery of safe and effective care to patients” at Dunmurry Manor.

In response, Runwood Homes stressed that its first concern is providing “safe and effective care” to its patients, and said it hopes Dunmurry Manor will soon be fully compliant with all regulations.

The company’s Regional Operations Director for Northern Ireland said: “Representatives from Runwood Homes have fully engaged with Regulation & Quality Improvement (RQIA) and have shared plans for implementing a model of best practice within Dunmurry Manor.

“Our residents are our first concern and we will ensure that they receive safe and effective care. We will continue to work with local Health Trusts in a collaborative and partnership manner.

“We envisage that in a short time Dunmurry Manor will be fully compliant with all regulations and will contribute to the provision of an excellent care service to the local community.”
