Dunseverick Pupils go to see the Queen

EIGHT Primary Seven pupils from Dunseverick Primary School were delighted to be chosen to travel with their teacher, Mrs Leanne Smyth and their Principal, Mr Peter Henry, to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee event at Stormont on Wednesday 27th June.

The 4 boys and 4 girls left school early in the morning and arrived at Stormont Estate where they gained access to the Blue Zone near to the Stormont Building and Carson Memorial.

They waited, and waited, enjoyed a picnic lunch (Burger and Chips!) and eventually moved into position at the railings in the hope of catching a glimpse of the Queen.

Her Majesty, who according to one of the pupils was, “fashionably late”, eventually arrived and to the children’s delight passed right by where they were standing, waving their flags and cheering.

The Queen and Prince Philip waved and smiled from their open top vehicle and the long wait had been well worth it.

Mr Henry commented on the occasion, saying, “It was a long day, but a day that these children will remember for as long as they live.”
