Duo are flying high for OLOL

TWO Ballymoney teachers are taking to the skies to help raise funds for Our Lady of Lourdes School.

Julie Ross, a geography teacher from Millbrook Manor and Grainne Wallace, a classroom assistant from Kilraughts Road are set to compete a charity tandem parachute jump on Saturday, May 8 at the Wild Geese Centre in Garvagh.

Julie explained: “We are hoping to raise money for school funds and to help finance the school play, Hairspray, which is going on at the minute.

“Running a play is very costly with costumes and sets as well as peoples’ time but the children get so much out of performing live on stage it’s well worth it.”

So far the duo have raised 800, however they still would love to raise more money.

Julie added: “The idea of doing a parachute jump was Grainne’s. We’ve both completed jumps before but that was 10 years ago when we were younger and braver. The jump is going to be a tandem from 14,000ft which is pretty scary to say the least. I’m not that nervous really at the minute, but I know I will when the day comes. I’ll be screaming like a little baby and my stomach will be doing summersaults. But I know once I’m back on solid ground I’ll be like ‘I want to do that again’.

“So far we have raised 800 between us which is absolutely terrific, however we’d still like to raise some more.”
