DUP councillor takes up role with board of Libraries NI

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council member, Alderman William Leathem has been appointed to the board of Libraries NI.

Following an open competition, the DUP man was appointed to the board along with Councillor Donal Lyons from Belfast and Councillor Billy Webb from Antrim and Newtownabbey.

The local authority representatives will serve on the board until the next council elections.

The Councillor Member position attracts remuneration of £3,000 per annum, plus travel and subsistence allowances.

According to the Department for Communities, the former Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Lisburn brings “team working skills and governance experience to the Libraries NI board.”

The primary duty of Libraries NI is to provide a comprehensive and efficient public library service for people living, working or studying in Northern Ireland.
