DUP delegation meet airport management

A DUP delegation from East Londonderry & Foyle constituencies has met the management team of City of Derry Airport.

The meeting requested by George Robinson MBE MLA has been seen as beneficial, according to Mr Robinson.

He said: “This was an opportunity to learn first-hand of the current situation surrounding the airport. With recent announcement about services from the airport being reduced, it was felt essential that an accurate picture was received from the management of current plans and their vision of the future of the airport.

“As both Foyle and East Londonderry constituencies have great interest in the airport a joint delegation was proposed.

“On Friday Gregory Campbell MP, Gary Middleton MLA, Adrian McQuillan MLA, Cllr Drew Thompson, myself met the senior management team from Londonderry airport. An informative and useful meeting of nearly three hours where we learned of future plans for the airport and were given a guided tour of the modern facilities at the airport.

“What became clear is how this airport is a vital part of the infrastructure for the North West and that it has a great future when business and tourism are considered. I look forward to seeing new airlines and routes being developed from Eglinton and support the public service obligation route to London as an essential part of the future.

There are challenges ahead for the airport but; if the positivity of the current management team is anything to go; by there will be a great future. A sincere thank you to the management for hosting us today and their hospitality. I have made a promise to myself to check out services from Londonderry and to support this gem on our doorstep.”
