DUP man Bradley questions Planners' ruling

COUNCILLOR Maurice Bradley has questioned the Planning Service's decision to refuse permission for a proposed new dwelling in the rear garden of a house on Ballyrashane Road, Coleraine.

At last Tuesday's Planning Committee meeting, Planners revealed they had turned down the application as they felt it would intensify traffic use of an existing access on to a protected route, thereby prejudicing the free flow of traffic and conditions of general safety.

Cllr Bradley though said the Planning Service only used this ruling when it suited them.

"There was a similar development recently which was approved so it seems that planners make this ruling when it suits," he said.

Mr Paul Duffy from the Planning Service told Mr Bradley that technically the previous development exited on to a minor road before turning on to the protected route.

Cllr Bradley responded that “technically” so does this new application.

"This development leads on to a drive way and then on to the road," said Cllr Bradley. "I know it's not your fault Mr Duffy but the quango above you."

Cllr Bradley proposed that council lend its support to the applicant for an appeal and the rest of the councillors voted to support the proposal.
