DUP pair in rural broadband call

Upper Bann MP David Simpson and local MLA Carla Lockhart met with Jude McCann and David McConaghy of Rural Support to discuss the disadvantages against rural dwellers accessing adequate broadband facilities.

Rural Support, Chief Executive Jude McCann contacted the local MP to express his major concerns that many homes were being isolated due to the lack of broadband services.

Mr Simpson said: “I have raised concerns about the level of coverage offered to rural dwellers many times in the House of Commons. The Government had previously made soundings that they were committed to improved services, however, the reality is that this commitment falls way short of what is required.

“Our ever evolving technical world is forcing everyone to have some level of internet experience. Yet we have evidence of many homes excluded from this opportunity due to their location. I must congratulate Jude and his team at Rural Support who are doing an excellent job in supporting rural households and I echo their thoughts and efforts that social isolation is not acceptable.”
