DUP say ‘let there be light’ in Tullyally

Aldermen Maurice Devenney and Drew Thompson last week visited Tullyally at the behest of local residents - amongst them Jean Martin, Hazel Irwin and Laura Turner - who have raised concerns over outdated infrastructure which hasn’t been upgraded since the estate was built in the 1970s.

Mr Devenney told the Sentinel the level of illumination provided by the current system is not good enough and welcomed confirmation by DRD to the party that the estate is now on the list for an upgrade.

The DUP Alderman said the Stevenson’s Park area was particularly badly served and that he hoped the upgrade would be completed within the next 18 months.

“A number of residents have contacted the office about getting the street lighting upgrade,” he told the Sentinel. “Especially, Stevenson’s Park. It has been up for 40 years now and has not once had an upgrade.”

He said progress has now been made with the inclusion of the area on a priority list for street lighting upgrades. It should now take around 18 months for the upgrade to take place.

“It’s like the lottery - if you are not in you can’t win,” said Mr Devenney. “At least now we are on the list. So it should take about a year-and-a-half. It’s badly needed after 40 years with the same outdated lights.”
