DUP urge proxy applications

THE DUP warn the deadline for applying for a postal or proxy vote in the forthcoming Westminster election looms tomorrow Thursday, April 15.

A spokesperson for the Londonderry DUP urged anyone who needs to vote by post or proxy to pop into the party constituency office on Ebrington Terrace where they can obtain application forms and receive help in filling them out.

The spokesperson said: “I am appealing to people who need to vote by proxy or post for whatever reason to call into the DUP office at 9 Ebrington Terrace where they can pick up a form.

“Members of the party will be able to help anyone who won’t be in Londonderry on May 6 for whatever reason.”

Douglas Bain, of the Chief Electoral Office said: “Anyone who needs a postal or proxy vote and meets the criteria really only has a few days to apply. I would urge anyone, who for legitimate reasons will be unable to vote in person, to take action right away.

“While this is an essential facility for some, I would warn anyone trying to cheat the system that we have stringent checks in place to detect fraudulent applications.” The deadline for applications is 5pm tomorrow.
