DUP's William Irwin tops poll in Newry and Armagh

The DUP's William Irwin has topped the poll in the Newry and Armagh constituency Assembly elections.

Sailing past the quota with a strong vote of 7980, Mr Irwin was more than 1,000 votes ahead of his nearest rival.

Megan Fearon of Sinn Fein also is through and aged just 24 will be one of the youngest MLAs at Stormont.

Also through in this constituency is Cathal Boylan.

Just under the quota is a third Sinn Fein candidate Sinn Fein’s Conor Murphy.

Just behind is the SDLP’s Justin McNulty who is polling ahead of party colleague Karen McKevitt.

Danny Kennedy is under the quota polling 4,904 votes in the Newry and Armagh constituency.

Transfers will most likely see him be re-elected.

UUP candidate Sam Nicholson is trailing with just 1,841 votes.
