Durkan: High-quality childcare can reduce inequality

INVESTING in high-quality childcare can reduce the gap in attainment between children from rich and poor backgrounds, and can increase the life chances of many children in Londonderry, according to Foyle MP Mark Durkan.

Speaking in support of this year's Childcare Week 12-19 July - the theme of which is Raising quality: reducing inequality - Mr Durkan said: "Childcare Week is an opportunity to recognise the importance of childcare in helping to reduce child poverty, supporting parents to work, and guaranteeing all children the start in life that they deserve.

"I have seen firsthand how good quality childcare in Derry is bringing about positive outcomes for children and their families.

"All children should be given every opportunity to fulfil their potential, and that's why high-quality childcare is so crucial."
