Durkan pays tribute to Mary Bradley

FOYLE MP Mark Durkan has paid tribute to local Assembly member and SDLP colleague Mary Bradley who on Thursday, October 14, announced her decision to stand down at the next election after more than 25 years as an elected representative.

Mr Durkan said: "It is very sad for political life that someone as warm, out-going, hard-working and compassionate as Mary has decided to step down.

"Mary is a family person, as well as being a good political representative, and obviously there are other things she wants to do in life.

"Mary always brought a very human and humane perspective to political discussion.

"You have never had a discussion with Mary where you didn't pick up another insight on an issue, which is practical, personal and very frequently poignant.

"All of Mary's recollections and stories are rarely about herself. They are rarely about setting the record right for her or about what she has done.

"It is always about other people and trying to set the record right for them."
