Dust off your stetson for the Uptown Hoedown

IT'S time to dust off the stetson and pull on your cowboy boots for Newtownabbey's first ever Uptown Hoedown, the borough's Country & Western Festival, which takes place in Glengormley from June 10 to 12.

On June 10, food tasting and line dancing workshops for senior citizens will be held in the Barron Hall from 1pm to 4pm, with Dance Unlimited providing lessons and guidance to prepare for the main event.

The Hot Dog Hoedown, a Junior Disco and BBQ, will take place on June 11 from 7pm to 9pm at the Barron Hall, ensuring everyone can get into the swing of the festival.

The main event on Saturday, June 12, kicks off at noon in Glengormley Park with entertainment for all the family. A funzone will provide hours of free activities for children, including inflatables, arts and crafts and drumming workshops.

For the first time, Citybeat will hold a 'Country Heat' of their Young Star Search competition, so maybe you'll spot the next Garth Brooks or Taylor Swift.

The Ulster Model Airplane Club will be displaying their replica planes and the classic car display is sure to attract a crowd of keen-eyed enthusiasts. No cowboy can go without his supper and there will be plenty of American food stalls to feast upon. Line dancing workshops will also be held throughout the day.

The best of the toe-tapping Country and Western acts will take to the stage from 3pm as Gary Gamble brings his Country Jamboree, starring Fiddler Adam, Curtis Magee and Kim Dickinson. At 7pm, the popular Louisiana Joyride will be the warm- up act for the headlining Johnny Cash tribute act by JP Mac at 8pm.
