DVA jobs debateat Westminster

The debate - ‘Driver and Vehicle Agency employment and services in Northern Ireland’ - was initiated by East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell.

Mr Campbell said: I will be presenting the case in support of retaining the existing vehicle licensing services in Northern Ireland employing over 300 people, the majority of whom (235) are located at the Regional Office in Coleraine.

“The Transport Minister Stephen Hammond MP has been invited to Coleraine but has not yet taken up the offer. I will be leading a cross Party group of MP’s including North Antrim’s Ian Paisley Jnr and South Down’s Margaret Ritchie along with representatives of the workforce to meet with Mr. Hammond in the next few weeks to present our case.”

Tuesday’s debate presents an opportunity to inform MP’s from across all parties and regions of the United Kingdom the case to retain vehicle licensing within the Driver and Vehicle Agency in Northern Ireland and to urge the Minister in the strongest possible terms to abandon proposals to centralise jobs to Swansea.

“The message on Tuesday will be: “Retain the jobs and retain the services”. said Mr Campbell.
