DW Sports Fitness for Ballymena

TWENTY new jobs are to be created in Ballymena as DW Sports Fitness Ltd announced the acquisition of the former JJB Sports Store on Braidwater Retail Park,

This purchase will become DW Sports fourth sole retail store and will see the arrival of the DW Sports Store into central Ballymena, taking the overall estate to 65 sports stores, as the Dave Whelan family owned business continue to expand their leisure and retail company.

DW Sports Store offering will include renowned brands including Adidas, Nike, New Balance and Asics, and have a strong focus on running, fitness and outdoor: as well as being home to exclusive brands including Mi-Fit, Skin360, Rugid and Studio2.

The new DW Sports Store will create up to 20 new jobs for the local economy.

Speaking of the opening, Dave Whelan said: “It is disappointing to see JJB in such financial trouble. Having bought the health clubs and retail stores from them 3 ½ years ago it is our intention now to make the DW sports store in Ballymena one of our top retail stores.

“The DW Sports Fitness chain was set up in 2009 after Chairman Dave Whelan bought 52 JJB fitness clubs and adjoining sports stores.

The chain has prospered since it’s opening, and currently has over 65 fitness clubs and 60 sports stores nationwide.”
