East Antrim has the UK’s most affordable properties

East Antrim has some of the most affordable dwellings in the UK for first-time home buyers, new figures have revealed.

The annual Halifax First-Time Buyer Review shows that with the Larne district has an average property price of £80,793.

Meanwhile, the most recent Quarterly House Price Index showed that the average house price for East Antrim as a whole stands at £128,695.

The survey– issued jointly by the University of Ulster, Bank of Ireland and the NI Housing Executive – analysed the performance of the Northern Ireland housing market during the third quarter of 2014; the months of July, August and September.

The report stated that the overall average house price in East Antrim has increased by 21.6 per cent over the year, building upon the recovery in the market apparent in the second quarter.

Several property types showed sharp price gains over the year with the average price of detached houses (£210,114) up by 17.4 per cent over the year.

The terrace/townhouse sector (£70,575) while characterised by a relatively modest average price, has recovered significantly over the year, up by 24.4 per cent.

Likewise, apartments in East Antrim (£93,305) also demonstrate substantial improvement over the year, with the average price up by 15.2 per cent.
