Mr McMullan said: “I arranged this meeting with Mr Jackson and various bodies interested in the promotion of tourism in the region as part on my ongoing campaign to ensure the Glens is at the fore of any new strategy.

“The Glens of Antrim are some of the most beautiful regions on the island with natural beauty combined with a rich history and great attractions so it is important that any strategy includes the Glens.

“We had a very constructive meeting with David Jackson and reinforced the need to use The Glens as a brand name as it has already established itself cross the globe.

“The new council will have major opportunities to promote tourism with the new powers that are being bestowed so we must begin on a positive note by ensuring all literature has the Glens emblazoned upon it.”
