East Antrim MLA slams £2m pay-out

The Department of Regional Development is paying an average of £2m per year in compensation to motorists and pedestrians due to the condition of roadways and footpaths, according to Sinn Fein MLA Oliver McMullan.

In a statement, Mr McMullan said:“In reply to a written question to the Minister Danny Kennedy, it has been revealed that over £11m has been paid out in personal injury and damage to vehicles claims over the past five years.

“I believe it is folly to be paying out £2m per annum in claims due to the poor condition of our roads. If there was a proper maintenance plan, this could be spent improving roads.”
