East Londonderry not getting its fair share of investment: McCandless

Coleraine Ulster Unionist councillor William McCandless has expressed concern at the levels of disparity in the recently published figures of the funding from Invest NI, Stormont’s economic development agency.

“The recent data released as to how Invest NI funding has been distributed across Northern Ireland makes very disappointing reading for East Londonderry,” said the Coleraine man.

“The Greater Belfast area received the lion’s share of the funding with figures per capita of Belfast £452:59 whilst Coleraine received £97:51 and Limavady £40:83.

“I do not consider that East Londonderry is receiving its fair share of investment and I have asked the Chief Executive of Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council to put this item on the agenda for discussion at the Council’s Leisure & Development Committee, with a view to inviting senior officials from Invest NI to meet with councillors to discuss the distribution of funds and explain their rationale.

“Reviewing the figures across the four legacy councils of the new Causeway Coast & Glens Council, all figures per capita are disappointing. I will be seeking answers and to ensure that this situation does not continue into the future.”
