Speaking last week, Ian Donaghy MBE, told The Times that it is ‘vital’ that local businesses respond to the government consultation on the future of the DVA in Northern Ireland.

More than 300 jobs at the DVA centre located at County Hall have been under threat for some time due to plans to centralise the service in Wales.

“It is really important that local business get behind the campaign to save these jobs,” said the President.

“The loss of any jobs has an impact on the town.

“But the loss of these jobs will have a multiplier effect - it would be like loosing 500 jobs.

“Spending power would be reduced, which would impact on everyone,” added Mr Donaghy.

The Chamber President urged local businesses to get behind an e-petition which has been set up.

“The more people that sign the e-petition and respond to the consultation will help to illustrate the impact that the loss of these jobs will have on the area.

“It would be catastrophic, and would leave a huge hole in the local economy.”
