Back in the saddle after a fortnight’s holiday and during that time I have been pondering the good and evil which can result from social media.

Most of you will be aware of the controversy surrounding on-line bullying and the tragic effect it can have on some people.

We hear about the suicides of young people and some will wonder how online abuse can drive someone to take their own life.

But just before I dashed out the door for my well earned break I came across a local site on facebook, which I am not going to give publicity to, which, essentially, provided a platform for some sad and sick individuals to post up the most nasty and hurtful statements about others. Not beating about the bush, it was essentially a site dedicated to vicious name-calling in cojunction with allegations of sexual misconduct.

What I read on my brief perusal of the site disgusted me and I made my feelings plain on my own facebook page, receiving a great deal of support.Social media is a great thing when used properly but it is a degrading disgusting nightmare when the barbarians are let loose.
