Education committee chairman backs Beechlawn campaign

THE Chairman of the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Education Committee Mervyn Storey has visited Beechlawn School to discuss calls for Post 16 education at the school.

Speaking after the meeting Mr Storey said; “I was very impressed with my visit to the school and after a very constructive meeting with Board of Governors and local Councillors, I will do my utmost in my role as Chairman of the Education Committee to support the school’s campaign to have post 16 provision at Beeachlawn.

“I will work alongside my colleagues Jonathan Craig, Paul Givan and Brenda Hale to keep the pressure on the Department and the Minister for Education.”

Councillor Paul Stewart said; “We would like to thank Mr Storey for taking the time to visit and meet with us to discuss our concerns regarding Post 16 Education at the school and we are delighted that he has agreed to support are campaign.

“I would also like to confirm that a cross party delegation from Lisburn City Council will meet with the new Chief Executive of the SEELB on July 10 to discuss this matter further.”
