Education proposal ‘very exciting’

SIR, The North Eastern Education and Library Board has published its Post Primary Area Plan for consultation which includes its proposal for the Ballymoney area.

This outlines the possibility of a co-educational school incorporating Ballymoney High School and Our Lady of Lourdes High School operating on a split site.

As a parent of two primary school children beginning to think about post-primary options, this proposal is potentially very exciting offering the possibility of a shared all ability post-primary school in Ballymoney which builds on the excellent provision currently provided by both schools, whilst continuing to relationships among all young people, their parents and local communities in the wider Ballymoney area.

This option should not challenge any one and should be seen as adding and contributing to the existing ethos in both schools. Our education system is facing significant challenges and we need to begin re-thinking how we deliver education in a more joined up manner. The consultation runs to the end of October - it’s important that all of us as parents and young people have our say.
