Eglinton dog-mauling probed

A report by the Council’s Chief Environmental Health officer points out that the dog warden received severe lacerations to his arm and leg and was treated at Altnagelvin Hospital where he received 30 stitches.

“The incident occurred whilst the dog warden was receiving an Alsatian/Japanese Akita cross-breed which was being voluntarily surrendered by its owner. The matter is currently being investigated by the Council and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed,” a report by the officer states out.

Elsewhere the Report of the Chief Environmental Health Officer to the Council Environmental Services Committee points out that there were two dog attacks on people and one dog attack on livestock; 36 dogs were impounded; 15 reclaimed; 17 killed; and 17 sold or rehomed during the month of March.

Fifteen instances of dog fouling were also reported.
