Eglinton pupil’s design gets people thinking about cycling

HANNAH Deane of Eglinton Primary School will be able to take part in Bike Week 2011 in some style after receiving her prize of a new bike and cycling helmet from Mayor, Alderman Maurice Devenney, for her entry in the ‘Bike Week’ poster competition at the Council Offices.

Primary 6 pupils from across the Derry City Council area were invited to come up with an eye-catching design illustrating the theme of this year’s Bike Week which is “Dust Of Your Bike.”

Hannah’s striking and colourful design was selected from the large number of entries received and has been made into a poster to promote Bike Week 2011 which runs from Saturday June 18 until Sunday June 26 earning her a brand new bike and cycling helmet courtesy of Bike Week sponsors Halfords.

Having seen the posters produced from Hannah’s design, Mayor Devenney said she was a worthy winner of the competition: “All the designs are excellent and Hannah’s design is really eye-catching and gets across the message of bike week and will get people thinking about cycling which is great exercise and fun for all the family and is also great for our environment too.” For more information on the diverse range of events taking place as part of Bike Week visit www.bikeweek.org.uk.
