Elderly man’s business is hit by thieves

The embroidery company located on the outskirts of the village just off the Banbridge Road was burgled last Monday evening (August 19).

The 73-year-old owner, who preferred not to be named, said the cost of the stock that was taken would probably “run into thousands”.

The long-standing firm specialising in embroidering badges ontoitems of clothing.

Police are investigating the burglary. They say a large quantity of sports jerseys, hooded tops and t-shirts were stolen during the incident.

They’ve appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact them at Lurgan Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information may be passed on anonymously via the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.

The owner guessed that the person or persons who stole a large quantity of his stock must have known where the business was located and what goods they could lay their hands on. He said they only took un-embroidered items that couldn’t be traced.

Commenting on the burglary Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson said: “It’s hard enough for our local small businesses to survive in the modern world.

“But to hear that a long-standing local company has been targeted in this way is difficult to take in.”
