The man left the house after being confronted by the lady, who was shocked but physically unhurt after the incident.

The man is described as around 20 years of age, tall and was dressed all in navy. He is thought to have got inside the house after the lady left her front door opened when going outside to chat with neighbours. Police are actively looking for the suspect and are treating the crime as opportunistic.

Local police are also stressing the importance of locking doors and windows and asking neighbours to look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours.

Witnesses to the incident are being asked to contact Ballymena detectives on the new 101 non-emergency number.
