Electoral ID cards arenow available

AN electoral ID cliinic was due to be held in Larne Leisure Centre yesterday (Wednesday) to enable local voters to get a free electoral ID card.

The event, organised by the electoral office, was scheduled to take place between 6pm and 9pm. It was arranged for those who do not have photographic ID which is accepted at polling stations to obtain an ID card.

Both East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson and Sinn Fein spokesman Oliver McMullan encouraged local people not to miss out.

“At election time, many people are turned away from the polls because they do not have the proper identification,” said Mr Wilson. “I am glad that people in Larne will now have the opportunity to get themselves a free ID card which will enable them to vote. A number of my constituents have never had a driver’s licence or passport, and these are expensive to obtain,” he added.

Mr McMullan said: “People only need to make sure they have their national insurance number with them.”
