Councillor Jenny Palmer, Chair of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said: “The Council would like to encourage residents to attend this free event and ensure their electric blankets are safe to use. An appointment is necessary so please contact the Council to secure your free test time.

Old or damaged electric blankets cause over 5,000 fires a year and the Council’s Environmental Health Service would like to ensure all residents remain safe and warm in their beds this winter.

“Testing will take place between 10.00am and 4.00pm so be sure to think of your own safety, your life, those who live with you in your home and come along to have your electric blanket tested. It is cheaper to replace a worn electric blanket that your family and your home, so if in any doubt about the condition of your electric blankets make an appointment to get it tested.”

Councillor Jenny Palmer extended her thanks to Home Accident Prevention Lisburn (HAP) for its assistance in this electric blanket initiative.

Electric Blanket checking will take place by appointment only on Tuesday September 9 in the Willow Room on the second floor of Lagan Valley Island between 10am and 4pm.

Telephone 028 9250 9382 or email [email protected] to make an appointment or to get further information on this event.
