Electrical recyclers collect their Kindles

Two local residents have been awarded the fantastic prize of a Kindle Fire HD 7” by recycling unwanted electrical goods at a council recycling centre.

These prizes were part of the council’s June Electrical Recycling Initiative that was open to all residents who recycled small electrical items at either The Cutts, Derriaghy or Drumlough, Dromara Road.

Mr Frank Lavery from Hillsborough and Nigel Abernethy from Dunmurry met with Councillor Jenny Palmer, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee to receive their prizes.

Lisburn City Council promotes sustainable waste management including the responsible recycling of electrical goods.

This competition was designed to encourage residents to dispose of any small electrical items at the Council’s Recycling Centres – The Cutts and Drumlough, which is more environmentally friendly than landfill.

Councillor Jenny Palmer commented: “I would like to congratulate Mr Lavery and Mr Abernethy for winning this competition.

“I would also like to thank ERP Recycling for sponsoring the competition.

“There was a huge interest in the Electrical Recycling competition and as a result lots of small electrical items were recycled such as TVs, DVD players, hairdryers and even batteries. Thank you to everyone who took part, your assistance in responsible recycling is greatly appreciated.

“It is important that we all keep up the good work and recycle responsibly as much waste as possible from our homes. Remember to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. A large number of small and large electrical items can be recycled through the Council’s Recycling Centres,” Councillor Palmer concluded.
