Well, one Stranocum girl has proved that such an attitude couldn’t be further from the truth.

For 11-year-old Ellie Henry has just held her fourth annual charity coffee morning and raised a whopping £850 for two charities.

The Ballycastle High School student began the coffee morning four years ago.

On the first occasion she raised £800 for charity.

The second year she increased the total to £900 and in the third year she brought in an amazing £1,000!

This year the £850 raised will go towards Causeway Children’s Diabetes group and the charity Stand By Me which rescues children in crisis.

Ellie told the Times why she runs her coffee morning.

“I chose those two charities as I attend the Causeway Children’s Diabetes group and our church Roseyards Presbyterian Church is running a missionary event for Stand by Me so that’s why I chose them,” she explained.

“I got the coffee morning announced in local churches, made posters, gave out invitations and put it on Facebook.”

“I got up that morning at about 6am to make the scones and sponges fresh,” said Ellie.
