Ellis Grove celebrates Housing Council honour

A CARRICK project providing accommodation for adults with learning disabilities has won a Northern Ireland Housing Council Award.

The Councillor Jim Speers Special Award was presented to Oaklee Homes Group for the scheme at Ellis Grove, Ellis Court.

Recognised as successful in terms of time, cost, quality and functionality, the location accommodates the provision of a mix of 11 shared and self contained units for 18 special needs adults with learning disabilities.

The difference and improvement in the quality of life and living environment for residents is regarded as the key measure of its success.

At the ceremony in the Ramada Hotel, Belfast, members of the Housing Council were joined by the Mayor of Castlereagh, Viviene McCoy, and guests from the Housing Executive and Housing Association movement.

Councillor Jim Brown, Chairman of the Housing Council, said: “The Housing Council exists to ensure the delivery of better housing services for all and through these awards we are able to recognise the achievements of those who have excelled in delivering these services.

“I want to congratulate all those nominated for awards and of course pay special tribute to the overall winners in each category”.

Mr Brown also commended the Housing Executive and Housing Associations for the consistently high quality of housing services delivered throughout Northern Ireland.

The Housing Council awards are presented annually to Housing Executive and Housing Association staff in recognition of the enthusiasm and commitment to the provision of an efficient, quality and value for money housing service.

The Councillor Jim Speers Special Award is awarded to the best Housing Association scheme constructed within the last three years.
