Emma and Chloe – hair’s to you!

Two big-hearted Armoy girls have donated their ‘crowning glory’ to a charity which provides real-hair wigs to children who have lost their hair through illness or medical treatment.

Primary Seven pupils at Armoy Primary School Emma Elder and Chloe McMullan heard about the charity The Little Princess Trust and decided they wanted to help.

The girls approached their school principal David Dunlop to ask for assistance.

Mr Dunlop said: “The girls came to me in June saying they wanted to do this.

“We did some research and got it all set up with the charity.

“The girls both had shoulder-length hair anyway, but they have been deliberately growing it long since June, as the charity needs nine inches of hair for the wigs.

“The hair has to be cut in a specified way for the charity, so we had a local hairdresser, Alison Nesbitt, come in to cut the hair properly.”

Emma and Chloe had their hair cut in front of the whole school during a special assembly.

Alison then took the girls away to give them a proper styling before they unveiled their new looks to their friends later.

The girls said they had been inspired to donate their hair by former pupil Rebecca Adams who donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

They also mentioned singer Jessie J who shaved her hair off completely for charity as an inspiration.

The local community of Armoy threw their weight behind the girls’ fundraising efforts too.

The Hedges restaurant accommodated Armoy Gun Club who held a Game Night, raising £960 – and the girls’ mums, Cynthia Elder and Dawn McMullan, have also raised a fantastic £1,500.

Armoy Primary School itself also helped fundraise along with the girls.

They are also planning to hold a Proms Night fundraiser in the near future.
