Emma hoping nation unites to help her win title

A LISBURN girl has been selected to represent County Antrim in the Miss Ireland United Nations Pageant 2010 - the winner of which will fly to Jamaica to represent Ireland in the international final.

Emma Edgar, a 19 year old fashion design student at the University of Ulster, said: "I would be very honoured to represent our country, and even better I would love to make County Anrim very proud."

The United Nations pageant was established in 1996 and encourages contestants to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate through volunteering.

Emma, who works for Converse Models, said she can't wait to take part in the contest in the Limerick South Court Hotel this weekend.

"I am really looking forward to meeting all the other girls," she said.

The winner of the national pageant will be crowned Miss Ireland and then go on to represent the country at the World Miss United Nations in the West Indies.

Heats for the pageant have been taking place all around Ireland. Emma explained she decided to enter after reading about the contest on Facebook.

The World Final will be held at Montego Bay later in the month.

Emma said: "I would like to thank John Ward for his kind donation and my family for their support."

The aspirng beauty queen has also made it through to the finals of the Star's 'Face of Summer' competition' and has her fingers crossed for both
