Emma sings for president

Emma Reynolds, a soprano soloist from Lurgan, was “absolutely honoured and delighted” when she was recently invited to sing for Irish President Mary McAleese at her residence Áras an Uachtaráin in Dublin.

President McAleese was captivated when she heard Emma’s beautiful voice and invited her to perform at a Tea Party to honour Senior Citizens from all over the country.

Emma was accompanied on piano by Susan Hewitt from Portadown.

Emma said: “It was wonderful singing for the President and all the Senior Citizens at the Tea Party. They were all so warm and inspirational. It truly was a great honour and a great day.”

Emma was particularly pleased to be accompanied by pianist/songwriter Susan Hewitt who composed and wrote the song “Home Again” for Emma. In 2008 this song, sung by Emma, won the IMRO organised Sean Mc Carthy All Ireland Classic Ballad Competition.

Emma took an interest in music at the age of nine when she started playing the guitar. Very soon she was singing to her own accompaniment and became involved with the local folk group, which marked the start of her singing career. 

Emma has performed in front of audiences both large and small, in castles, in churches, in schools, and on television and radio. She was a finalist in Eurosong when she came fourth with the song “Innocent Days”.

Emma’s voice lends itself to a lot of different styles of music and for the President she performed a light operatic repertoire.
