Employers tour NRC Transport Skills Centre

EMPLOYERS were recently given a special preview of progress on the Northern Regional College's (NRC) newly built Transport Skills Centre in Newtownabbey, along with apprentices who will be completing courses at the centre from September 2010.

The state of the art training centre comprises a fully equipped workshop for heavy vehicles including rail and freight, industry recognised vehicle test equipment and vehicle training equipment.

The training support will also have an online learning package for heavy vehicles including CDX to HGV trucks, buses and coaches to facilitate courses, including the Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Course.

Welcoming employers and apprentices to the centre, Director of NRC Trevor Neilands said: “I am delighted to see employers and apprentices support the development of NRC’s first heavy vehicle centre.

“The Transport Skills Centre has been designed to be a centre of excellence, delivering the highest level of training and development to engineering apprentices during their time with NRC.”

The Transport Skills Centre is part of the 10 million new build project at the Newtownabbey campus where courses in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair will begin this September, attracting students from across Northern Ireland.
