Empty poststrebled in city

THE number of vacant civil service jobs at Londonderry’s pension centre trebled last month due to the creation of a number of new posts, according to Pensions Minister Nelson McCausland.

On September 18 there were five vacant posts at the Carlisle Road centre. A month later - on October 17 - there were 18 empty posts.

The increase came in the wake of a bi-annual review that resulted in the creation of new positions in the pension centre, bringing new jobs to Londonderry.

In June the Sentinel reported how the relocation of 87 civil service jobs to the Londonderry centre had been delayed by a number of months.

The State Pension jobs were supposed to have been relocated to Londonderry from Belfast this spring to create a new single Northern Ireland Pension Centre but Mr McCausland revealed that the switch could not commence until July.
