End in sight for traffic jams in town centre?

Ballymoney DUP Councillor, John Finlay, who has been lobbying for some time for the introduction of measures which will ease traffic snarl ups at the busy Main Street, Meetinghouse Street and Castle Street junction has welcomed what he described as a positive response from Transport NI to his latest appeals.

Alderman Finlay said that Ballymoney people were all too aware of the frustrations faced by local motorists.

He said: “At peak times, traffic can be snarled back as far as the roundabout at Trinity Presbyterian Church. I have been lobbying about this matter for some time now, and TransportNI have just informed me that they have recently completed two schemes in the vicinity. These include adding audible signals for pedestrians crossing the traffic signals at the Main Street junction, which involved slight adjustments to the signal timings; and resurfacing works at Gate End, which involved a slight alteration to the existing kerb alignment and lining.

“TransportNI also intend to carry out a queue length and delay survey at this junction. This survey is programmed to be completed and analysed within the next few months.

“The effectiveness of these measures remains to be seen, but at least the authorities are now taking some action. I will continue to keep a close eye on this issue, and would ask road users in the area who are experiencing undue delays or congestion to get in touch with me.”
