End of an era for St MacNissi's College

A SPECIAL Mass was held at St MacNissi's College on Sunday to mark the end of almost 60 years of education.

The college, which opened its doors in 1951 as a boys' boarding school for the Down and Connor Diocese, will now join St Aloysius High School of Cushendall and St Comgall's College of Larne to become the new amalgamated school of St Killian's College.

More than 100 current and former members of staff attended the commemoration Mass, which heralded the end of an era for the college.

The Mass was concelebrated by Canon Alex McMullan and Fr Paddy Delargy, both former presidents of the college, and Fr Tony Fitzsimons, the last clerical member of staff.

Other former principals / presidents of the college were also in attendance, including Canon Dominic McHugh (1966-72), Peter Geoghegan (2002-5) and Eileen O'Loan (2005 – present).

St Killian's College will officially come into existence after the Easter holidays, with a former student and teacher, Jonny Brady, as the new principal.
