Enjoy Age NI’s Itea and Biscuits week in our libraries

Libraries NI is inviting people in later life, who are interested in learning about the internet and other technology, to take part in this year’s Age NI’s Itea and Biscuits week which will be held from 17th - 23rd September in Northern Ireland libraries.

Itea and Biscuits Week is an annual campaign, managed and delivered by Age UK and supported by Age NI. It aims to introduce IT to some of the 5.4 million people, age 65 and over, across the UK, who have never been online. With 60 enjoyable events being held in 34 libraries across Northern Ireland, people are invited to take part in Itea and Biscuits 2012.

Local events include Itea and Biscuits at Ballymoney Library on Tuesday, September 18 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm (hour session), contact 028 2766 3589 and Got It at Ballycastle Library on Monday, September 17 from 10am to 4pm (one hour per session), contact 028 276 2566.

Itea and Biscuits week is part of Connect with IT, a digital inclusion campaign organised by Age UK and the aim of the week is to let older people experience using technology themselves and to demonstrate the many benefits, such as keeping in contact with friends and family more easily and having easier access to information and services.

Libraries NI is excited to offer a range of fun IT learning activities in libraries for Itea and Biscuits week, including one-to-one IT sessions, digital photography workshops, how to shop online, book a holiday online, find cookery recipes, check out sporting websites of interest, locate your house on Google maps, get tips and hints on using a mobile phone – and much more!

Valerie Nicholson, Adult Learning Services Manager, Libraries NI, explains: “Libraries NI is delighted to be partnering with Age NI to celebrate this year’s Itea and Biscuits week by holding IT taster sessions in 34 libraries during the week of 17th September.

“We would invite all older people interested in losing their fears of learning about computers to come along to sign up to these free IT events in any of the participating libraries, to learn how to use computers and search the internet in a relaxed and fun way.”

Library membership is free for everyone so you are invited to join your local library to enjoy a host of free membership benefits, including free computer and internet use.
