Enterprising studentsrecognised at SERCCollege awards

CELEBRATING enterprise and entrepreneurship at South Eastern Regional College (SERC), over 400 students were recently awarded Certificates in Enterprise.

Whilst studying at SERC, students across all curriculum areas are encouraged to take part in a range of initiatives to enhance their employability skills, develop their enterprise awareness and skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork, problem–solving and business awareness.

Sharon Browne, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Manager at SERC said: “To give students the extra edge in today’s workplace and promote the skills that employer’s value, the College introduced a qualification in Employability and Personal Development.

“SERC are committed to the promotion of entrepreneurship among students and this enterprise qualification gives them the opportunity to develop skills valued by employers including communication, negotiation and selling which we actively encourage through the Enterprise programme.

“Currently eleven student companies have been set up and are being run by students, giving them an insight of what can be achieved once they complete their course at SERC.”

Presenting certificates to Art and Design and Engineering students, SERC Director of Corporate and Economic Development Thompson Keating said: “I would like to congratulate all those students who have achieved a SERC Certificate in Enterprise. Given the importance of enterprise in economic growth and employability it is necessary to embed enterprise into the curriculum and the new qualification is an exciting opportunity to do this and focus on key skills recognised by employers.”
