Entrepreneur shows how to succeed even in a recession

A LARGE turnout of Larne businesses attended the latest event in the Larne Vital Business Seminar series, with Philip Bain of Shredbank explaining how his company has achieved double-digit growth in the midst of a downturn.

Philip Bain was an Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 and Young Businessperson of the Year 2011 having led Shredbank as a start-up company to high growth in a very competitive market, disproving the notion that success in a recession is impossible.

Shredbank entered a document-shredding market dominated by well-established multi-nationals and a deteriorating economic climate. During the seminar, Philip Bain reflected on the importance of marketing, selling, innovation and having a business model that works.

Many of the businesses in attendance at the seminar in Willowbank Business Park spoke appreciatively of the seminar and the insights they had gained.

“Philip and Shredbank’s approach has been inspirational and a challenge to every business to focus on innovation, marketing and customer experience”, said Maurice McIlroy of Firgrove Pet Resort.

The Vital Business Seminars series is supported by Larne Borough Council and organised through Larne Development Forum by LEDCOM.

Councillor Martin Wilson, Chairman of Larne Development Forum said, “Larne Borough Council recognises the difficulties being faced by local businesses and is keen to support businesses to meet the challenges associated with maintaining market share and growing a customer base in the midst of a recession. Working with LEDCOM through Larne Development Forum, the council is delighted to see the positive impact of these seminars on the local business community”.
