Environment Minister Mark H. Durkan states that the ‘invasive species’ Japanese Knotweed was controlled by spraying with the herbicide glyphosate in the Roe Valley Country Park

THE DoE used the herbicide glyphosate to control Japanese Knotweed in the Roe Valley Country Park, it’s been revealed.

Environment Minister Mark Durkan said the weed was also treated in a hedgegrow in Portadown. He stated: “Japanese knotweed found growing in a hedgerow at Brackagh Moss Nature Reserve near Portadown was sprayed with glyphosate.” This was the only instance where the DoE sprayed the weed in a hedgerow. But the Minister said the plant was also controlled in non-hedgerow situations, including at the Roe Valley park.
