Alleygating welcomed

MOVES to provide an alleygating scheme on the pathway between Meadowbrook and Carrigart have been welcomed

Sinn Fein Councillor Tommy O’Connor welcomed the news that Craigavon Community Safety Partnership (CCSP) and the Housing Executive have accessed funding for a scheme there.

Sinn Féin, he said, had lobbied for measures to deal with an ongoing problem of youths drinking in the alleyway following representations from local people.

He said, “Despite efforts by the Meadowbrook Residents Association to prevent these groups gathering in this area, the problem continues to cause distress for those living close-by and has made this alleyway a no-go-area for local residents in the evenings and late at night.

“For-by the unacceptable noise levels, garden fences have been damaged by fires and empty bottles and cans and other litter is thrown into people’s gardens for them to clean up. We welcome the proposal from the Community Safety Partnership and the Housing Executive to erect a gate which would be closed at 6am and opened at 8am.”
